I’ve spent a lot of time recently contemplating the effectiveness of this site and its layout. Its something I personally investigate every year, and once again I feel like I am at the cross roads.
I get a wealth of requests from people who would like to see more content published on this blog/site and in general just more updates and photos from time to time. Considering that 99% of my photography business is referral based, I rarely found the need to update the blog with my random musings. Spotlight takes time, then there are various events, photography, friends….. well, life.
I’m too busy living.
This is a photography site right? No one wants to see me rant on about my various, and most often tangent sparking tirades. But yet people do. They want more pictures and more rants. So I’m starting to take the emails and comments seriously.
I polled a few to see what they thought about the current site’s layout and what they’d like to see.Yes I still want to write and post my photos, but I want a layout and interface that’s a bit more organic. Easier to read, and inspiring for me to update.
So some changes are coming the next few months to update this site with all the web 3.0 and 4.0 and 10.whatever goodies. Yes the business side of things will come out, but I promise it will be transparent.
I’ll write as often as I can, and that’s about as much as I can promise.
If you really do want to subject yourself to my content, you know where to get the good stuff.
Talk about the roughest week. But it started off on a very high note. Caught Bedouin soundclash in a very intimate environment, and boy did they sound fantastic. Party after Party, I put myself out there, then got sick, then took a tumble, and now I feel like my head is ready to explode. Finally, a few days to relax.
Easier than you think, and a start for endless experimenting.
You need:
2 Mangoes, semi ripe
3 tbsp sugar
some salt to taste
½ cup of milk
1 cup of plain yoghurt
Chuck it all into a blender, and blend it for a few minutes. This is where you can decide what consistency is to your liking. Too thick? Add some milk..too thin? Add some yoghurt…too sweet? Not sweet enough? Etc. Throw in some mint to give it a kick, or do as Jamie Olliver does and pop in some cardamom seeds.
Serve chilled, sprinkle some cinnamon on top for kicks.
I should say that this post was born out of my disappointment in the Lassis that are being served in city, notably at Lahore Tikka House where they practically taste like flavoured water.
Due to the enormous popularity of these two articles on Spotlight, we’ve decided to extend the series of articles to 5 parts. It’s just because the content is popular, but also because the guide is not finished. There’s still well over a dozen places to cover!.
Now contrary to what you may think, compiling an article like this is a lot of work. It takes a toll on the mind, and of course, the body.
Find cupcakeries
Drive there
Buy cupcakes
Talk to owners, get a feel for the place, the approach, the art (this is what I do best, and this is why I think we are the best)
Shoot the cupcakes (I play the role of photographer, stylist, lighting techinician, all without giving it a studio feel. these cupcakes need to look good, but lets not go overboard)
Eat the cupcakes (i hurt)
Eat again, think, write
Eat, one more time…with someone…get a second opinion….
Now research, what has someone else said about said cupcakes.
A lot of people say I work backwards, in the fact that I always read what people have said, after I’ve tried the food. I do this to avoid being influenced, and I admit, sometimes it’s impossible to not be influenced.
As I write this, I’m putting the finishing touches on Part 3. It goes up later this week.
