Chestnuts,

So I have a new toy in my hands, and I’m having a very difficult time putting it down. The Chestnuts, one of several shots you’ll be seeing as I become a photography voyeur all over again.

November

November it seems, is always a very busy month for me. For a number of reasons. November is the true beginning of fall, so the city sees a wide variety of indoor events taking place. So this means a lot of running around, photographing and writing…. Read the rest of this entry »

Lately, been finding that I’m spending a lot of time trying to shoot food again. But due to space limitations, I’m having a bit of difficulty with the setup. Maybe I should invest in one of these?

Pic is of some of the delicious pastries and sorbets from Xococava, Chris McDonald’s place. The marshmallows and guava sorbet is out of this world.

I tend to stay clear of political debates, but for this particular election, it has been very difficult to do so. It’s been very difficult because this U.S. election has become very emotional for many people. The last few months have shown us that patriotism can be a good thing.

Who knows what will happen tomorrow, a lot of us are keeping our fingers crossed, even here, north of the border.

I was driving around a few days ago and was listening to some Rage on the radio. I thought the music would piece together with some Obama photos I’ve seen the last few weeks. So I tested it, and to my surprise it actually blended quite well. Enjoy,

Tomorrow will be both exciting and nerve-racking..

 halloween on church, 08

Halloween can easily be my favourite ‘event’ of the year in the city. Why? Because it’s easily the most social, colourful, scary, and engaging event. A photographer’s dream, a street photographer’s dream even. For one night, you see a dramatic shift, almost everyone dresses up, roaming the streets all night with plenty of parties to crash. Everyone loves to have their pictures taken!… Read the rest of this entry »

(VIDBLOG) I Just Left - Europe 2008 from justin on Vimeo.

Recently, I’ve been toying with the idea of spending more time shooting videos. You see them everywhere now, and it is something I’ve wanted to do for some time but never quite figured out how to output my ideas. Videos like this one, as simple as they are, make me want to pick up a camera and start shooting. It’s so simple in edit, but it conveys the mood and a tone so brilliantly well. I love it. Start shooting, shoot something, stitch it together and tell a story.

A different kind of storytelling.

King Street East, Toronto

I’ve spent a lot of time recently contemplating the effectiveness of this site and its layout. Its something I personally investigate every year, and once again I feel like I am at the cross roads.

I get a wealth of requests from people who would like to see more content published on this blog/site and in general just more updates and photos from time to time. Considering that 99% of my photography business is referral based, I rarely found the need to update the blog with my random musings. Spotlight takes time, then there are various events, photography, friends….. well, life.
I’m too busy living.

This is a photography site right? No one wants to see me rant on about my various, and most often tangent sparking tirades. But yet people do. They want more pictures and more rants. So I’m starting to take the emails and comments seriously.

I polled a few to see what they thought about the current site’s layout and what they’d like to see.  Yes I still want to write and post my photos, but I want a layout and interface that’s a bit more organic. Easier to read, and inspiring for me to update.

So some changes are coming the next few months to update this site with all the web 3.0 and 4.0 and 10.whatever goodies. Yes the business side of things will come out, but I promise it will be transparent.

I’ll write as often as I can, and that’s about as much as I can promise.

If you really do want to subject yourself to my content, you know where to get the good stuff.
